Recently, with the official commissioning of its final unit into commercial operation, the State Grid Xinyuan Jiangsu Jurong Pumped Storage Power Station has been fully put into service. Nestled among the verdant hills of Jurong, this “giant energy storage battery” boasts a total installed capacity of 1.35 gigawatts (GW), adding another highly reliable regulating power source to the East China Grid.

The project has set three world records: it features the world’s tallest pumped storage dam at 182.3 meters—equivalent to a 60-story building—holding back a reservoir with a capacity of 17.07 million cubic meters (roughly 1.2 times the volume of West Lake). It is also the world’s highest asphalt-faced rockfill dam and has completed the largest-scale reservoir basin filling project ever undertaken. Due to its technical complexity and engineering significance, it is hailed within the industry as a living “encyclopedia” of modern hydropower construction.

Behind this monumental project are six reversible pump-turbine units, each with a capacity of 225 megawatts (MW), delivering an annual designed electricity output of 1.35 billion kilowatt-hours—enough to power approximately 360,000 households for a full year. Each cycle of pumping and power generation precisely balances grid load fluctuations, placing extreme demands on all station equipment—particularly the intricate, site-wide cable network.

In the power station’s core areas, cables must endure instantaneous current surges from frequent start-stop operations, complex electromagnetic interference, and the humid conditions of underground caverns. Even the slightest performance flaw could lead to signal transmission failure, equipment malfunction, or even system-wide shutdown. This means the cables serving such a world-class facility must possess exceptional high-voltage endurance, high-temperature resistance, superior flame retardancy, long service life, and stable signal transmission.

Far East’s high-quality cable products have been extensively deployed in the station’s critical systems and essential load circuits. Thanks to their outstanding conductivity, robust mechanical protection, and excellent environmental adaptability, these cables ensure efficient, safe, and lossless power transmission throughout the vast and complex system—providing foundational support for the “strong heart and sharp mind” of this “giant energy storage battery,” earning high recognition from the project team.

In addition, Far East Communications supplied key optical fiber cables for the project. Signal attenuation performance is critical for these cables, directly impacting the accuracy and real-time reliability of control commands and monitoring data transmission across the entire station. Far East’s communication products, with their superior low-attenuation characteristics and stable transmission quality, have established a sensitive and dependable “nervous system” for the massive facility—working in tandem with power cables to form a “dual safeguard” for stable operations.

Across the grand landscape of China’s new energy development—from vast photovoltaic arrays in the Gobi Desert and offshore wind farms along the coast, to steadily operating nuclear power units and even cutting-edge research into future energy like controlled nuclear fusion—Far East’s presence has been a constant thread. As a critical enabler of energy infrastructure, Far East continues to inject solid “Far East Power” into the global energy transition and sustainable development through its comprehensive product and service portfolio.
